Activity Introduction

In Hong Kong such a small area, nearly 70% of the land are countryside, while over 40% land are country parks protected by the law, enclosing vegetations like secondary forests, shrublands and grasslands. These terrestrial environments are habitats of many wildlife. However, impacted by various human activities, the survival of wild animals and plants is severely threatened.

“Interactive Ecology Classroom’s May the Forest Be with You” revolves around the theme of local forests. Through thematic talks and interactive games, students could learn about Hong Kong forest ecology and related concepts at ease. On the other hand, through discussion and reflection about impacts of human activities towards forests, the activity encourage students to change their living habits and to safeguard Hong Kong’s countryside environment collectively.

Section 1 - Subject Talk
  • Introduce Hong Kong biodiversity and forest ecology
Section 2 - “Ecology Detective” Interactive Game
  • Watch a locally produced short video of wildlife, understand the characteristics and behaviors of local forest animals and plants
  • Through group games, learn about ecology concepts like food chain
Section 3 - Discussion section “Forest Guardian”
  • Understand how human activities affect forests, and explore the ways to change daily habits to reduce adverse impact to forests
Section 4 - Activity Conclusion
  • Arouse observation and care to the nature, as well as alter daily habits, with the promise to safeguard our forests
