Apart from participating in the “Penang World Cleanup Day” press conference, we also visited the Sustainable Community Centre operated by the Green Educators’ Workshop (GREW). We exchanged ideas and showcased our environmental education achievements. We were deeply impressed by GREW team’s passion, having a vocation for promoting environmental education. Their spirit motivated us to continue developing and improving our environmental education activities and teaching materials, enabling more people to cherish and protect nature.

Mr. Chew Eng Seng kindly demonstrated to us how to guide students in making eco-friendly soap by utilizing waste oil. This type of workshop enabled students to understand that waste reduction could be easily achieved with creativity. At dinner time, we also let the GREW team experience our board game "Law of the Forest”. We exchanged thoughts on educational material design.
We also showcased our environmental education project outcomes. Colleagues responsible for different projects took turns to present their works, and had received positive feedback from GREW. The GREW team shared past events they have organized as well. According to their sharing, organizing educational activities in Malaysia was quite challenging as it required approvals from different parties. Knowing that the core team consisted of only a few members, while most of them held full-time positions as teachers or school principals, it was truly impressive that they still insisted on devoting their time as volunteers in GREW. Their dedication to promoting environmental education was genuinely admirable.
I believe it is the selfless dedication of the GREW volunteer teachers, along with their passion for education, that has catalysed the further development of environmental education in Malaysia. Hopefully, we could sow the seeds of environmental protection for future generations diligently, just as the Penang environmental education groups do for their youngsters.
