SKJC Union & SMK Convent Butterworth School Visit Recap

In addition to visiting SMK Kampung Kastam, we also went to SJKC Union Pulau Pinang and SMK Convent Butterworth. We paid a visit to the schools' environmental facilities, and appreciated various upcycling products. It enabled us to reflect on the importance of cultivating students' awareness of environmental protection. With such awareness, it could motivate students to integrate eco-friendly practices into their daily lives.

Sharing by Katie Hui (Education Officer)

Quah Jensen, the environmental ambassador from SJKC Union Pulau Pinang, guided us to tour around campus, showing us the eco-friendly facilities enthusiastically. Through assisting teachers in educational activities, as well as monitoring the school's environmental performance, the environmental ambassadors helped set a good example to their classmates, and promoted green lifestyle in school.

Another Eco school, SMK Convent Butterworth, also enabled their students to unleash their creativity. According to the characteristics of different materials, students upcycled the materials into practical products, including flower pots made from tires, jumping ropes woven from plastic bags, dumbbells made with compressed bottles, and handmade aromatherapy products crafted with pandan leaves. This reminded us that environmental protection could be ubiquitous. By exploring, waste reduction at the source could be achieved effortlessly.

To alleviate the burden on the environment, technology should not be the ultimate solution to the problem. Instead, we should learn from these environmental ambassadors, and cultivate environmental awareness. Let’s take the initiative to change our lifestyles! By evaluating the value of the things we have and reducing waste, we could have a positive impact on the environment.
