The University of Hong Kong Faculty of Education – Lecture Sharing & Board Game Experience

Invited by the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Education, our Founder and Education Director Dr. Xoni Ma, as well as Founder and Creative Director Ms. Janice Lo, shared with tertiary students who enrolled in the course “EDUC7183 Experiential Learning in School-based Contexts” about the related concepts of environmental education. Besides, through the board game “Law of the Forest” interactive session, the tertiary students understood how to teach ecology concepts through game designs.

In the lecture sharing, tertiary students learned that effective environmental education should be based on related theories. Apart from knowledge transfer, it should also incorporate engaging indoor interactive sessions and outdoor field trips, allowing learners to develop a holistic connection with nature, inducing them to conserve the environment with actions.

Furthermore, the tertiary students could experience the board game “Law of the Forest” designed by us, learning about the application of experiential learning. Given the roles of various local species, they competed for survival amid the fight between predators and prey. They learned about the local biodiversity and understood the impact of human activities on local ecology. Absorbing the experience in this board game, they were able to design high-effective and high-interactive environmental education activities in future teaching sessions, helping learners to understand the vital importance of ecological conservation.
