Odonata Identification Course

No matter natural or articial habitats, our tutors tried to spot every single one of odonatan species

OWLHK organized the first Odonata Identification Course in 2020. This course introduces the beauty and importance of insects wildlife in Hong Kong.

Learning Objectives

  1. To understand the Odonata ecology
  2. To familiarize over 1/3 of Odonata in Hong Kong (approx. 40 spp.)
  3. To identify some common species in Hong Kong

Course Feature

  1. Small class teaching: each class opens for application within 24 trainees, arranged on a first-come, first-served basis. Teacher-to-student ratio remains 1:8.
  2. Professional tutor: lecturers and field-trip tutors are local graduates of ecology, who are also sophisticated in environmental education and botany research
  3. Outdoor education: the course consists of over 13 hours field trip
  4. Featuring Ecology Component: on top of species identification, it introduces the importance of Odonata ecologically

Time and Format

3 sessions of indoor lecture, 2 half-day and 1 full-day field trip. 19 hours in total.

Certificate

Participants will receive a certificate of at least 80% attendance
