OWLHK Taiwan EE and Ecology Interflow Visit 2018

Observing the “Aquatic World in the Forests” course

OWLHK attaches great importance to the expertise and environmental education development of itself. We hoped the visit allowed us to comprehend the development of environmental education in Taiwan and enlighten us. Also, we could take it as a reference to promote environmental education in Hong Kong.

7 of us went on this trip that lasted for 7 days and 6 nights. Firstly, we arrived at Dongyanshan Forest Recreational Area. It allowed us to exchange and discuss the ideas of environmental education with DAUDING that is responsible for the operation of the Dongyanshan Forest Recreational Area. Also, we participated in the orienteering of Dongyanshan. We observed the “Aquatic World in the Forests” course for primary school teachers which helps them to understand the relationship between water and forest.

There is high biodiversity in Dongyanshan. Local volunteers guided us to a night safari and look for reptiles and amphibians. Besides, we were glad to play the board game “Law of the Forest” with the team of DAUDING and share our teaching experience with them, such a great opportunities to both the team of DAUDING and us to exchange ideas about educational education in our places.

After the trip to Dongyanshan, we went to Taichung. We participated in "Learn from the Forest” - a environmental education training course by EnvEd Centre for Innovative Learning. We were honored to have a fruitful conversation with Professor Ho Sin Jia who teaches at the National Taichung University of Science and Technology about the recent development of outdoor learning in Taiwan. Last but not least, we had more tours on ecologies in the Basianshan Forest Recreation Area and Dakeng.

The visit was rewarding. Thank you very much for all the great hospitality and advice from environmental education teams. Hope to see you again.
