OWLHK Taiwan EE Interflow Visit 2016

Observing Yeliu Geopark study course

Right after the establishment of OWLHK, Dr. Ma Kwan Ki, Founder and Education Director, went to Taiwan for an exchange with local environmental education organizations. Dr. Ma spent 8 days with environmental educators in Friendly SEED, to experience different types of environmental education activities.

In Taiwan, civil servants are required to take environmental education courses not less than 4 hours due to the law of Environmental Education. Dr. Ma participated one of their courses for adults in Yeliu Nature Center, exploring the geological environment in Yehliu.

In addition, he paid a visit to Yangmingshan National Park for its primary course. He got to experience Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) promotional activities in supermarket and schools as well. He also attended the exchange forum, “Environmental Education 2.0-The Key to Transformation-Defining the Future” organized by the Forestry Bureau Council of Agriculture, and hosted by the Field Studies Council.

The 8-days learning experience was meaningful and the atmosphere of environmental education in Taiwan is totally different from Hong Kong, which is worth learning from. Thank you for the generous hospitality of Friendly SEED, hope to meet again in the future!
