OWLHK Development and Environmental Education Exchange 2021

Summer is a great opportunity for OWLHK team to obtain and exchange new insights. Influenced by the pandemic, we were not able to travel abroad to link up with environmental education organizations to conduct in depth exchanges and sharing. However, we have reserved a week in August to host a retreat camp. Our team took this this opportunity to get to know each other, interact with other environmental organizations and learn to drive local environmental education development from different ways and perspectives.

In the past five years, more young ecology enthusiasts have joined OWLHK and we have gradually developed into a thirteen-member organization. Taking the chance to understand and learn from each other, we came up with a five-day retreat plan. Through different activities such as woodwork, indoor war games, canoeing and snorkeling, our team unleash their talents, teamwork and a chance to connect with nature. Members who mainly focus on terrestrial ecology had the chance to go to the sea together. We felt and experienced Hong Kong’s amazing marine world, enriching our experience in nature. In addition, this year we had the opportunity to exchange our work with the School of Everyday Life in Tuen Mun Ching Leung Nunnery. Learning to incorporate affective learning into environmental education, we had a wonderful experience with combining emotion with logical learning experience.

Through five days of exchange with each other, we took the time out of our busy schedules to breathe, slow down, appreciate, enjoy the beauty of nature and build a deeper connection with nature. Having rest is for accomplishing a longer journey. In hopes that OWLHK would continue to ride the wind and waves on the route of Hong Kong environmental education.
