OWLHK Taiwan EE and Ecology Interflow Visit 2023

Subsequent to 2019, in 2023 summer, 15 members of the OWLHK team once again set off to Taiwan. In the 7-days-6-nights interflow activity, the team visited Kaohsiung, Shuangliu, Dongyuan and Kenting. Unlike in the past, apart from fixed schedules, including having a thorough discussion with various environmental education groups, showcasing environmental education activities, and understanding the culture of Dongyuan tribes, OWLHK team members were also given the opportunity to freely plan and experience different activities, for instance, experiencing problem-solving activities and participating in diving. Such activities inspired OWLHK to explore the possibilities of environmental education, enabling us to have the capability to create an ideal environmental education blueprint, and spread the seeds of ecology protection in society.

Special thanks to various environmental groups, including Shuangliu Nature Education Centre, Watch Nature Ecological Consultation Co., Ltd., EnvEd Centre for Innovative Learning, Taiwan Environmental Information Association and Alibang Ecological Farm, who had provided OWLHK valuable interflow learning opportunities. We had learned a lot from this interflow journey. We experienced intriguing and highly interactive environmental education activities, showcasing one another’s local environmental education activities, engaging in the World Café discussions related to Taiwan and Hong Kong’s environmental education status quo and development, and had a deeper understanding of indigenous tribes and local natural environments via guided tours delivered by Dongyuan environmental education teachers. In addition, according to their own interests and capabilities, members from OWLHK planned different activities, like taking up the challenge of problem-solving activities and experienced diving in Kenting’s Houbihu. This had enhanced our understanding of environmental protection, strengthened the relationships within the team and hopefully we could ignite new sparks in Hong Kong’s environmental education.
