Hong Kong Environmental Education Interflow Workshop 2017

Each organization introducing their recent EE works

To promote the interflow in the field of environmental education, OWLHK together with Green Power, Education Department of Ocean Park, the Conservancy Association, the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and WWF-Hong Kong, we organized the Hong Kong Environmental Education Interflow Workshop on 4 Sep 2017 at the Fanling Environmental Education Resources Centre. We also invited colleagues from the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation and the Ho Koon Nature Education Cum Astronomical Centre, hence a total of eight organization joining the workshop.

The workshop began with the sharing from the representative from each organization, to introduce recent EE work and direction. In the afternoon, OWLHK Founder and Education Director Dr. Xoni Ma presented the results from the questionnaire survey that completed by the colleagues before the workshop. The questionnaire asked about the concept of EE and ESD, the status, implementation and challenges of HK EE, and the character of environmental educators, etc. The results of the questionnaire survey had been used as a reference for setting up the topic of the discussion session.

We had also invited school teachers to share their experience in implementing EE in schools. After teacher sharing, then all participants divided into eight groups, using the World-Café approach, discussing four different topics. These four topics included: How to build up capacity for environmental educators & other multipliers in HK, Effective ways to promote positive attitude & behavioural change for the environment, Challenge & opportunities of environmental education in HK, and How to integrate environmental education into formal school curriculum. At the end we have the group leaders reporting the discussion outcomes, with the group picture ending the workshop.

We all learnt so much from this workshop and this was an important step to push HK EE forward as we can set a common goal and direction for the future and work together. Thank you so much for the all the colleagues organizing the workshop and all the participants, we all looking forward to another opportunity to interflow with all of you.
