The Most Exciting Journey of The Year: Take a Trip with OWLHK

OWLHK team looks forward to ‘the trip’ every summer. Let's take a look at the in-depth environmental education journey with us! Apart from our busy schedules, we have reserved a week in August to host a retreat camp. Our team took this opportunity to interact and learn from other environmental organizations. Through a series of activities, we get to know each other of the team as well.

In order to develop professional environmental education in Hong Kong, we not only need to equip ourselves and strive for progress, we also need to take a breath and rest in nature. We appreciate and enjoy the beauty of nature by building a deeper connection with it and then we share these touching moments with others.

OWLHK Taiwan EE and Ecology Interflow Visit 2018, 2019 Highlight

OWLHK has been traveling to Taiwan for the past few years. We exchanged experiences with local environmental education teams, learnt from their enriching experiences and were enlightened for our future work in Hong Kong. We have also met local government departments, ecological conservation, ecological documentary groups, seniors and co-workers. By learning from one another, we seek to improve our team’s professional capabilities in hope for putting environmental education in Hong Kong to a next step.

OWLHK travelled to Dongyanshan Forest Recreational Area to exchange ideas with local environmental education organization DAUDING.
OWLHK also brought along with our proudly published board game <Law of the Forest> to share our experience.
We went for a field trip in the stream with Mr. Fung Hon-shing, Hong Kong ecology documentary director.

OWLHK Development and Environmental Education Exchange 2021 Highlight

Due to the pandemic, we were not able to travel abroad to link up with environmental education organizations for exchange and sharing in 2021. Instead, we stayed in Hong Kong and came up with a five-day retreat. Through different activities such as woodwork, indoor war games, canoeing, and snorkelling, our team unleashed teamwork and a chance to connect with nature and understand each other more deeply. In addition, we had the opportunity to exchange our work with the School of Everyday Life in Tuen Mun Ching Leung Nunnery. Learning to incorporate affective learning into environmental education, we had a wonderful experience with combining emotion with logical learning experience.

OWLHK Development and Environmental Education Exchange 2022 Highlight

The destination for 2022 is still Hong Kong. Same as last year, we organized a series of exchanges and activities, such as Live Action Role Playing (LARP) games, hiking, team building and so on. We had this opportunity to get to know one another and share thoughts, review, and improve. This made OWLHK team more determined to continue riding the wind and waves in Hong Kong environmental education.

Sharing excerpts from the OWLHK team

“Perhaps, only by sparing time to rest, we remember that our daily life is inseparable from relationships: with colleagues, with ourselves, and even with nature. All the above relationships are so precious that require time to nurture and nourish.”

“Playing in the nature is never a privilege of children. We all share the same right. To embrace jolly moments like such is the ultimate source of motivation to share and spread the happiness. Do you recall how long since you last skipped and ran in the wilderness? You may go any time you want!”

and came up with solutions.

OWLHK team will not stop equipping ourselves to bring a change to Hong Kong environmental education. We will keep on exploring and finding better ways for improvements. Let’s get inspired to inspire!
