Bringing on-campus activities and field trips in line with school-based curriculum in kindergarten, primary, secondary and tertiary education

OWLHK Primary School Environmental Education Series - Inter-form Activities

Our Environmental Education Activities offer flexibility in arrangements, with accordance to schools’ themes, time and location. Our programs could reduce administrative work and assist teachers organize grade-wide trips, comprehensive learning, experiential learning activities and project-based learning.

Our team could flexibly arrange activity framework, such as date, duration and location. Environmental Education activities could be held on weekdays or weekends, or even in-campus services. With reference to school-based factors like location, target participants and schedule, we could suggest alternative plans. Hong Kong has a diversified natural environment, which is an ideal place for students to get in touch with the nature. Taking the environmental carrying capacity into account, suitable site options are suggested according to the number of participants. Activity themes consist of variable choices, including but not limited to forests, ocean, wetland, urban and bird ecology. To enhance students’ awareness and interests towards local ecology and biodiversity, while encouraging students to explore the nature and participate in ecological conservation actively, we could provide diversified and interactive activity formats. Indoor activities may be thematic sharing or board game learning activities. Outdoor activities mainly focus on ecological field trips and outdoor game exploratory activities.

Schools are very welcome to provide tentative activity framework or preliminary ideas. We would later discuss with you to formulate tailor-made and specialized educational programs, providing students with an enjoyable opportunity to experimental learning.

W F Joseph Lee Primary School

In March 2023, we held a “Forest Ecology Activity Day” for about 130 Primary 3 students from W F Joseph Lee Primary School. In the thematic talk, students acquired the knowledge about Hong Kong forest ecology and biodiversity. Classes then visited three different places to conduct forest field trips. In the field trips, students had the first-hand experience to learn about local ecology and biodiversity. Through a series of missions, they realized the human impact to local forest and came up with daily ways to protect forests. Returning to school, students then learned about the relationships between wildlife via the board game “Law of the Forest” to consolidate what they have learned about forest ecology and nature conservation.

We also organized a “Free Ocean Day” for about 150 Primary 5 students. Students first attended a thematic talk to learn about Hong Kong ocean ecology and biodiversity. They then had a coastal exploration. In the field trip, students learned about the behaviours and survival skills of local shoreline organisms. From that, students understood the importance to conserve ocean ecology. Students then contributed in shore cleaning and conducted a marine debris survey, witnessing the problem of ocean plastic waste and its impact to local ecology. Students came up with ways and thoughts to reduce daily waste from source. Back to campus, students would solve the marine debris problem with collaboration illustrated in the board game “Ocean Crisis”. The message of how marine debris could induce global danger was embedded to the students after the day.

Pat Heung Central Primary School

In April 2023, we held “Forest Ecology Activity Day” for around 85 Primary 3 students from Pat Heung Central Primary School. Dividing as Cantonese or English groups, students visited the countryside in 2 days. Through interactive missions and exploration using five senses, students had a great time learning in the forest environment about some common plants and animals. Lastly, students summarized what they learned into the activity logbook and promised to conserve nature and forests in their daily lives.

Pui Kiu College

We had an “Interactive Ecology Classroom: Our Bird Neighbors” for about 165 Pui Kiu College Primary 2 students in June 2023. In small-class learning activities, we had thematic talks, wildlife video-watching and interactive storytelling sessions. Students learned about some common urban birds and how to observe and get along with wild birds.

Tin Shui Wai Catholic Primary School

In November 2023, we organized 3 sessions of “Law of the Forest” Indoor Board Game Activities for over 110 Primary 6 students. Together with thematic talks and “Law of the Forest” board game, students learned about Hong Kong forest ecology and biodiversity concepts. Experiencing “survival of the fittest”, students had deeper understanding towards organism taxonomy and food chains, and understood the adverse impact of human activities towards forests. Lastly, in the reflection sharing session, students mentioned that after experiencing what challenges were the animals facing, they were more willing to lend a helping hand in forest conservation.
