Free Ocean Series

Students will begin by exploring local marine ecosystems and the issue of marine debris through an engaging indoor lecture and board game activity. They will then visit coastal ecological hotspots where they will observe intertidal species, conduct waste audit, and to understand how marine debris affects the environment and our lives. This will help students to reflect on their lifestyle and cultivate reduce waste at source practices.

Activity Format

  • Thematic Lecture
    An introduction to marine ecology and biodiversity, examining the factors contributing to Hong Kong’s exceptionally rich marine biodiversity.
  • “Ocean Crisis” Board Game Session
    A cooperative board game where players try to save the ocean from plastic pollution. Players have to prevent excessive ecological damage within time constraints.
  • Coastal Exploration
    Tutors guide students to observe the fascinating coastal flora and fauna, appreciating Hong Kong's diverse intertidal ecosystems and biodiversity.
  • Waste Audit
    Shore cleaning, categorize and record collected marine debris on a record sheet.
