Panel Discussion and Outdoor Workshop on Education for Sustainable Development

OWLHK together with the Curriculum Development Institute of Education Bureau, the Conservancy Association, Green Power, the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society, Ocean Park Institute and WWF-Hong Kong, we organized the Panel Discussion and Outdoor Workshop on Education for Sustainable Development that held on 7 May 2019. This programme was designed for school teachers and each participated teacher can get Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours.

This was a well-planned training programme, and it was also a rare opportunity for the six local environmental education organization, together with the Education Bureau, working together to push the development of school ESD in Hong Kong.

Invited by the Life-wide Learning Section, Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau and the SKH Holy Spirit Primary School, OWLHK conducted a teacher training for all teachers at 29 Oct 2019.

OWLHK Founder and Education Director Dr. Xoni Ma, invited by the Education Bureau, had been the consultant of Life-wide Learning in the Collaborative Research and Development ("Seed") Projects in 2019-20. The theme of this Life-wide Learning Project was game education, and the way to utilize real context and actual environment to conduct effective teaching and learning activities.

In 2017, OWLHK organized a one-day outdoor study course especially for the New Senior Secondary Biology curriculum. This programme is jointly organized with the Ecology and Biodiversity Society, SS, HKUSU and was funded by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. This course is based on the theme of the most common insects in city - ants. By studying the diversity and ecology of ants in urban area, suburb and their corresponding habitats, students could understand Hong Kong’s biodiversity and achieve subject learning and environmental education.

OWLHK was funded by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department in 2018 to launch the Forest Ecology Board Game Education Programme, co-organizing with Ecology and Biodiversity Society, SS, HKUSU. It used the board game and outdoor field study as the main teaching agent and approach for primary school students to effectively understand biodiversity in Hong Kong and enhance their conservation awareness.
